For the Tulle of It

Hey Style Lovers! Today's post features yet another way that I have styled my tutu/tulle skirt. I wore this about 3 a few weeks back, and I'm already ready to wear it again! I feel tulle-licious each and every time that I wear my tulle skirt. If I had my way, I'd have more opportunities to wear tulle, as in at least once a month!
I wear what I LOVE, over and over again. I currently have one tutu (although I have aspirations of making one via the many DIY tutorials available), purchased via etsy almost two years ago. I love it's 'pouf factor', in my mind there are at least 99 ways that it could be styled (see previous looks here, here, and here).
So far I've only worn/styled it four times, so that means that I have about 95+ additional rounds to go, right?! LOL! I just might be on a mission to document each and every single look that I can come up with; Stay tuned!
The thought of tulle skirts ooze femininity in my head, as a result, each time that I've worn this one, I have targeted the feminine angle. I decided to try for 'feminine edge' this go (worn and photographed a few weeks ago), I already had most of the items that I needed on hand. Rocksbox  provided the icing on my cake, as the earrings, statement necklace, and bracelet came courtesy of my membership from them. If you'd like to check out their jewelry styling service for free, visit their site, and use code InMyJoiXOXO at checkout.

So, how'd I do, is this look feminine with edge? I certainly felt edgy and feminine at the same time!

Until next time,

XO

Ruffles & Pleats

My current style esthetic includes color-blocking (more details here) and creating textural interest. Color-blocking is a great way to mix pieces and colors that seemingly would not match.
You know what I mean? Like, certain colors always look great together, sometimes it is feels safe to stick to the tried & true. Yet with a bit of experimentation, one sees that the possibilities are endless! For me, herein lies the "fun" of getting dressed ;)
Today's ensemble features teal + purple + pink. Thinking back to the very first time that I wore these items together, it was long before I considered blogging my personal style. This combo is a go-to for me, this time I decided to try adding a second matching necklace.
Not only do I like the color mix, but also the textural interest. Raised geometric shapes, satin ruffles, leather accessories, and poly pleats give this look a lane of it's own.
What are some characteristics of your current style esthetic?
Until next time Style Lovers, have a great weekend!!

Taking a Jog

Hey Style Lovers!
Today’s post features a quick jog down casual lane, featuring an “accidental look”, of sorts.
What do I mean? Well, I picked up this pair of joggers some months back, but took my sweet time about wearing them.
One day I had to run out really quick for an errand, so I grabbed them along with this linen top. I realized it was a bit nippy out, so a scanned for a blue blazer and snatched this chambray one off of my rack. Took a quick glance in the mirror and suddenly realized that I like the combination!
Has that ever happened to you? Please do share with us!

Until next time,
X

Taupe in the Dark

Plus Size Fashion
Happy Friday Peeps, the weekend has arrived, can you believe it?! Time seems to be disappearing into thin air, I mean the month of March is almost over already! Well, what do you have planned for the weekend? Is it feeling like Spring in your part of the world? I'm on total chill mode this weekend, and can't wait to get started, LOL!
Silk Skater Skirt
Today's post provides one example of how I mix neutral colors with vibrant colors. Taupe is the selected specialty of the day.
Plus Size Blogger
The color taupe is unique as it's actually a mix between nude and beige. For some reason taupe always makes me think of slivered almonds, although it is definitely not the same color (I've mentioned before about how colors/clothing often cause me to think of food, LOL! See here).
Leather moto jacket
For this style recipe I went monochrome on top,  pairing a leather jacket with a vintage silk blouse. This kidskin jacket is so supple and soft, everyone that touches always asks, "Is this leather?". It feels so good, I mean like butter-soft.
Trouve, Context, Nine West
For drama and spice,  a dark canvas print skater skirt is brought to the counter. Instantly hints of gold, deep purple, teal, and turquoise are added to the batter.
Outfit of the night #ootn
After mixing up all the ingredients I added a matching pair of taupe sandals as icing on the cake. I was ready to hit the door! Wasn't that easy?

Have a fabulous weekend Style Lovers, until next time!
Xx

Bumble Bee

Happy Hump Day Style Lovers!
It’s been so hot in Southern California the last few days, we’re actually looking forward to a cool-down =)
Nothing says warm weather is here like halter tops and bright colors! I purchased this skirt last year, yet this is the first look that I have blogged it.
Yellow meringue is the name of the game (see here and here); it’s my favorite color to wear (blue is my favorite color overall if that makes any sense, LOL- example here).
Most of the US is experiencing a great thaw out, has it warmed up in your neck of the woods? What styles are you looking forward to during the warm weather months?!
I was offered a complimentary membership to Rocksbox (Unlimited designer jewelry delivered to your door), and received my first three piece selection over the weekend. The studded earrings in today’s post came from that set (Urban Gem Pavé Peekaboo Stud), and they are all kinds of glam! Rocksbox is a membership-based jewelry styling service. You tell them your style aesthetic, choose items from their collection and wa-lah, they create a jeweled look just for you! After trying out the jewelry you have the option to purchase it at a discount, or return it for a new curated set. If you’d like to try one month for absolutely FREE, sign-up here and use code: InMyJoiXOXO!

Until next time,
Xx

Baby It's Warm Outside

Can you believe that today is FRI-YAY?! It seems like this week flew by. Everyday has been VERY busy, like from sun up to midnight, that type of BUSY. Can I tell you a secret about me? I honestly like having periods of engrossing work! Nonetheless, I’m still looking forward to a weekend consisting of Bid Whist (I'll be smacking the cards down as hard as possible), good food, and 85+ temperatures =)
I wish you all a FANTASTIC weekend!!!
Today’s look: A citrus explosion served up in overload mode; I like being generous ;)
This tantalizing shade of yellow is enamor-worthy, don't ya think?
Can someone please tell me where can I find this fabric???
I’ll have shorts, a top, a skirt, and another dress made, YES, and thank you!
A dress you can grab in a pinch that gives you instant UMPH is necessary for every woman, in my opinion.
This look is ideal for date night or an evening out with your girlfriends.
Notice that this dress has a jeweled neckline, instantly 'dressed up' with minimal effort. Typically I don't care for built in jewelry on clothes, but this dress proves to be an exception. There are exceptions to every rule!
Please do tell, what’s your ‘UMPH’ dress and how do you style it?!
Xx

Denim & A Tie

Is there a such thing as a wrong way to wear denim? How do you like to wear denim? I discussed in a previous post (click here) that more than a decade went by and I did not wear denim of any kind. That is, until, I stumbled into a pair that fit my curves like a dream…They just so happened to be white, and the same exact brand that I am wearing now.  For me, the key to wearing denim in a way that I truly enjoy involves fit and comfort.
Now I have a weakness for all white ensembles (examples here, and here), but on this day I switched up my game by opting for a blue denim shirt, along with a tie borrowed from my husband’s collection. You do know that I dabble in his collection as often as possible right?! That is one of the highlights of married life! LOL! Seriously, I do love rocking a tie. Don’t believe me? Have a look here, here, and here.
From my perspective, white denim is perfectly suitable for year round wear, as is any other piece of white clothing. I recently saw white paired with chocolate brown over at So What Twenty! and I thought “GENUIS”! If you feel a tad apprehensive about wearing white outside of it’s typical season, try pairing it with a darker color like blue, brown or black (another example here).
On over to you: Do you think that there is a wrong way to wear denim? What does your favorite denim look consist of?

Some Like It Bright

But you already know that I like it bright, right?!
Yes, in my mind the brighter the hue, the better. I can't explain why, but for as long as I can remember, I've always gravitated toward the brightest of hues. Long before it was "in style" or "on trend"...
I step outside my comfort zone by challenging myself to wear neutral colors, like black or tan.
There's simply no denying it, some like it bright! Do share, what's your style preference?

Silk Petals

It’s feels a lot like Spring here in Los Angeles, a vast array of flowering trees and bushes are in full bloom. I love this time of year! If there is at least one thing that I genuinely appreciate about living in California now, it is hands down… The Weather! As a Detroiter, I was raised in brutal cold winters and regular snow falls. However, at this stage in my life I have accepted that I simply do not have a desire to tolerate that type of weather again! LOL! The past few days have been gloriously beautiful. I innately feel happier when stepping out into the inviting sunshine and warm breezes. Even a few semi-cloudy skies were breathtakingly wonderful and didn’t damper the Spring-like vibes one bit.
Silk is one of my favorite fabrics; I’d say it runs neck and neck with my love of crisp cotton. Today’s ensemble features silk on silk along with my self-proclaimed neutral hue: purple. Purple permeates my wardrobe, yet it is not my favorite color. It serves for me in a similar way as one might use black and/or grey (see here, here, and here).
Like my new hairdo?!
Not only did I straighten it, I added a demi-permanent red color, plus wacked off a good chunk, taking me from mid back length to neck length. This isn’t my first time chop session, and I dare say it won’t be my last! I love changing up my own hair, and I'm very excited about a few more ideas up the pike….

Until next time Style Lovers, have a wonderful weekend!!
