Living for the Weekend

You know that feeling when it’s Wednesday, but you have FRI-YAY on your mind? Some might call that, 'Living for the weekend'! Well, that is totally me today!!! LOL! I wore this look over the weekend, and let me tell you: it is so comfy and chill. It’s been a rainy winter in SoCal for the first time in a long while- I find myself relying on trench coats as a staple.  This is the newest member of my home collection, I immediately fell for its color and design. To dress it up a tad I’ve styled it with a matching faux fur wrap, and wouldn’t you know, it was just as FAB! This time around I added a pair of fun sneakers to the mix because what girl can resist glitter and furry accents?!

About my hair 😉 : I decided to bring my natural curls out to play (versus blow drying my hair straight and flat ironing it) for a spell. I’m testing out DevaCurl for the very first time and I think I like it! The Buildup Buster is a cleanser that promises to remove buildup without compromising the health of your strands. From the very first use, I noticed more defined curls- even prior to adding conditioner! Curls & Color

If you’ve been following my blog over the years, you may have noticed that I like to change my hair styles frequently. I let my natural hair grow long for several years, but last Summer I was in the mood for a change, so I chopped it all off for a short haircut (picture here).

Of course, here we are one year later, and I’ve changed my mind, again… Alas I must patiently wait until my hair grows back. In the interim, I find protective styling to be a staple to my natural hair care regime. They offer me length and versatility all while maintaining the health of my natural hair. Protective styling comes in a number of styles. My two favorites protective styles are wigs and braided extensions (see examples here & here).

During the years that I wore my natural hair long, I had to forgo my favorite protective styling options simply because they weren't conducive. I cannot contain my excitement that I finally get to wear wigs again! I made my very first purchase of remi hair with Bobbi Boss almost 15 years ago. I am excited to be able to review and share my recent experience with one their premium human hair wigs!*

 I am wearing the Bobbi Boss “MHLF-G” lace front unit. The color is a “2”. This color is a bit lighter than I expected. I will darken it a bit with temporary dye.The wig has a lace inset in the front, around the hairline, and slightly to the side to allow for a natural looking part. There are 3 combs in the netted cap to help secure the unit, and 2 adjustable straps in the back to loosen or tighten for your personal comfort. I wear my hair in corn rows underneath, and find the combs to be most helpful. Note: you do not need to use adhesive to apply this unit.

The wig is made from 100% premium remi human hair. The texture is naturally curly, it has a wonderful sheen, and is very soft. I've washed it twice, using the same shampoos and conditioners that I use on my own natural hair (which is also curly).

This Bobbi Boss lace front unit is an excellent addition to my hair stash; I anticipate styling it in many ways!

Neon Citron & Classic Stripes

Today's style tale stems from a cluster of bracelets that I snagged at H&M on clearance. I loved the color/design, and I wondered what style concoctions would arise as of a result of the purchase. First I wore them with an all black look, and second with a dark blue dress. Unfortunately I neglected to take pictures in either of those looks...As I've mentioned on my Instagram account, I truly do not like taking pictures. This blog is a labor of love and it regularly takes me completely outside of my comfort zone. Which is not necessarily a bad thing! Nonetheless, I have digressed. On to today's look:

I thought this striped trumpet skirt would be a good fit (for the bracelets), but initially I planned to wear it along with a black top.

I decided to have some fun with it, and went for this neon citron top instead =)

Notice my fun-filled, matching statement ring? I also have a giraffe print on my nails which is equally fun & funky ;)

I added sunnies, a clutch, and black booties to complete the look.

Interview Attire: Done My Way

When I woke up this morning I opened one eye and thought to myself, ‘please let today be Noday’! What is “Noday”? “Noday” in my mind is a day where there is absolutely nothing that I have to do. That rarely happens in my life, even when I am on vacation :( Anyway, the next best thing to “Noday” is usually Friday- which just so happens to be today! WHOO HOO!

I did a post a few weeks ago Interview Attire: Idea Number 1. Today’s post is a follow-up to that one. As I mentioned, when it comes to interviews, everyone usually opts for a navy blue or black suit. What if you do not have a suit? Do you have to go for separates? In my opinion: No!  There are other options.



I wore this dress to the interview that landed me my current job.

If you’ve been following this blog for any period of time, you know that I bat for team bold color. Most days at the office, I am drenched in bright color (like here and here). On an interview however, I would not recommend bold color from head to toe. It takes time to learn the personality of your office, and what type of attire is accepted and or tolerated.  Because I am partial to the bold and bright, I make a conscious effort to step outside of my style box. To do so, I opt for muted colors and subtle prints. This dress is one example.

Its silk (which is also a personal favorite) and has somewhat of a vintage feel. You did know that I am also a vintage fanatic right?! Okay, great!

I added neutral print shoes and grey fishnets. In true vintage fashionista style I topped the outfit with a vintage coat, which in my mind goes with everything and is a wardrobe essential.
