For the Frill of It

Autumn is upon us and I am so thrilled by the beautiful shades of rust, burgundy, and the like now in ample abundance.
Cold shoulders were HUGE this Summer (see previous looks here, here, here, and here) - I’ve decided that there is no sensible reason as to why I cannot carry my affection for wearing them over into Fall and Winter! There aren’t a lot of things that I can say that I truly LOVE about living in SoCal, but the phenomenal weather is definitely at the top of my list!!! One awesome thing about this over sized cold shoulder top is that it can actually be worn on the shoulders, off the shoulders, or one shoulder bare : )
Gone are the days that wearing white is reserved for certain days/months of the year Babes- I freely wear white all year around! Sometimes I hear: ‘How do you wear white after labor Day?’ My answer is: Simply put it on! LOL!!! Seriously, there is no need to feel apprehensive about wearing crisp white pieces well into Fall, Winter, Spring, and of course Summer.  Great fitting, well made white denim jeans are a wardrobe staple for me, I love pairing them with rich colors such as this burgundy cold shoulder top (see another look here). You can also pair white denim with layers, long vests, sweater coats, plaid/graphic blazers, and the list really goes on and on…

Until next time,
XO

Making Appearances

Some have said that appearances don’t really matter, yet experience indicates something entirely different. For instance, what is the very first thing one generally notices when meeting someone else? Their appearance! Yes, skin color, facial features, condition of teeth, eye color, hair, clothing and even personal mannerisms.

Time and time again people draw firm conclusions based on the outer appearance of someone else. Of course these conclusions and or assumptions have a considerable probability of being inaccurate; nonetheless those conclusions can be extremely difficult to dismiss.
How often have we heard the expression, “First impressions are lasting impressions?” The way that we dress, look, and manner in which we conduct ourselves does matter.
I personally notice a considerable difference in how I am treated when I enter high end retail stores based on my dress being dressy versus casual. When I am casually dressed, and perhaps my hair doesn’t look freshly styled, I notice that sales people are more likely not to approach me to ask if I need any assistance.
In sharp contrast, when my attire is dressy and or upscale, I find myself inundated with sales people from multiple departments asking how they may help me. Point taken?
Despite awareness of the fact that appearances do carry a considerable amount of weight, I dress according to my own personal preferences. I love to dress up most days, because it makes me feel good, and seems to align with who I am as a woman. However, there are times when I’m tired and or not quite in the mood to do the norm. On those days I throw on whatever takes the least amount of effort (example here), and I set about my day.
Over to you: Do appearances matter to you? Have you observed any noticeable differences in how you are treated based on your attire?

Thanks for stopping by!

30PlusStyle: Animal Instinct

The 30PlusStyle Collaboration (www.facebook.com/30plusstyleis back on the scene (for previous posts click here) and today we’re flashing our animal instincts. We had the option to choose from animal prints, leather, fur and or all of the above!
A few weeks ago I debuted 3 looks in leopard print (click here, here, and here), which solidified my decision that today's post would not contain leopard print ;)
Warm temperatures have returned to SoCal (despite the fact that it’s now mid-October), so warm that it is simply unthinkable to slip into a fur or anything remotely like it, no matter how much I would like to, because I heart all things FUR.

As a believer that the color white can be worn successfully all year around, white jeans were an easy pick. I immediately thought to pair them with this zebra print hoodie that I purchased a few years back.
Next I added my lightweight fabric and faux leather motorcycle jacket as a topper for night temps.
Now, I’m generally not a hoodie type of woman, but there was something about this one that struck me as feminine, fun. I love the way that it’s made, and the easy drape of the knit.
Usually I opt to wear it with a black knit skirt. Pairing it with white this go round was a fresh and welcome change.

This ensemble was perfect for date night, and my husband was especially a fan of the peep-toe booties =)
