Where Yellow Meets The Green: A Boxy Top & Tube Skirt

It's Monday already?! I type this in disbelief! Why, oh why does the weekend go by so quickly? Nonetheless, I hope you had a FAB weekend! I truly enjoyed my weekend; I got to spend time with friends that I haven't seen in quite some time.
On to today's post! I paired a boxy sleeveless brocade top with one of my staple tube skirts (see other examples here and here).

In the past I steered clear from boxy (shapeless) tops. I always felt that they added unnecessary bulk to my waistline/mid-section. I am trying to turn over a new leaf...I'll let you know how that works out! LOL!
Here's my first attempt to style a top that does not contour my waist.

Can you see the conviction in my facial expression?! I'm working on my 'poker face', but I haven't mastered it as of yet. To be honest, I'm not sure that I am sold on the boxy top look...Fortunately I nabbed this one for an extreme markdown at Nordstrom for less than $5.00. If it doesn't work out long term, I will donate it.

Top: Tildon
Statement Necklace: JCPenny
Tube Skirt: Vince Camuto (similiar here and here)
Shoes: BCBG
Clutch: Vintage, thrifted

  3. Joi, I just realized I posted my message on your contact page. Forgive me. I think the top is fantastic. It is a design from one of my favorite eras...the 60's. The way you styled it is on point and works well with your proportions. If you had worn the top with something loose then the top would not have registered. However, with the fitted skirt, it looks perfect. LOVE IT! You look modern, yet retro.
