Now that I've officially entered the twilight years of my 30's, I thought it might be 'fun' to blog 10 things about life after 35 that no one told me 😉 As they say: Sharing is caring! In this way, when your time comes, you won't be blindsided like I was 😆 Don't get me wrong, my 30's have been the BEST decade of my life to date 🙌🏽 In fact,  I anticipate every upcoming decade. I love making new discoveries about myself and this thing called LIFE,  I want to do so well into my 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and so on!!! I've never worried about "getting old". From my perspective, it is an inevitable process. The longer that I'm alive, the higher my age number will be. That's logical right?!
Nonetheless, there were a few things that I did not anticipate... Yes, a few 'special' things began to occur with my body 😜
Let's dive right on in:
1) The skin on my face changed drastically --> A C N E <--Prior to my mid-30's I had never experienced acne and or blemishes/pigmentation differences on my face. In a word, my skin appeared to be flawless. Right around age 35, I started to notice small bumps/pimples popping up here and there. When they finally cleared up, they left noticeable dark marks on my chin, jawline, and forehead. In fact, during the height of it, I could barely stand to look at my face in a mirror. It was like I didn't recognize my own reflection. Thankfully, I developed a skincare regime that works for me! Now my skin has stabilized, and my acne scars are fading. I'll talk about the fine line that magically appeared across my forehead at another time...
2) Next up? Stray hairs started to grow in mysterious places, like on my chin and neck... The first time I felt one I thought it was a scab! WHAT IN THE WORLD?! I'm not referring to fine hair, like what makes up my mustache, oh no, this is different. Each strand feels hard, wiry, almost like stubble.
3) I've never had a large reserve of patience. However, after I turned 35, the limited amount that I did have, well it basically disintegrated. Presently I have ZERO tolerance for 💩, and to be totally honest, I don't feel apologetic about it, at all 💃🏽
4) The color of your hair changes. As in turns gray or white... This isn't a bad thing, truth be told, I wouldn't mind going gray rapidly all at once. I would love to have pastel gray or white hair... And yet, just because I want all gray hair, well it's coming in painstakingly slow and inconsistently.
5) I almost forgot! I can't leave out random aches and pains. Nowadays, they happen for no reason at all. I am not talking about severe or chronic pain, I'm talking about feeling mild discomfort in places that I never did before.
6) A change in weight gain distribution. My entire life my stomach has been relatively flat. Now, the dynamics have changed. Instead of all miscellaneous weight gain appearing in my hips and rear, I now have a nice cushion across my belly...
7) Also notable: A decrease in the ability to shed weight with minimal effort. In years past, I'd go on a brief diet or juice cleanse, and drop 10-15 pounds with ease. Now, when I'm ready to shed a pound or two, doing what I used to do doesn't work --  AT ALL!
8) So you thought you were done with your wisdom teeth? Not so much! Apparently, your 30's is an ideal time for them to come in. I have a new one, it has shifted my once naturally straight teeth. I've never worn braces, but now I'm considering getting them 😳. A trip to the dentist is in order, but I'm putting it off for as long as possible...
9) The density of my hair is changing...I've had thick hair that could seemingly withstand any type of treatment for as long as I can remember... however now, I've noticed that the density & strength of my hair is different. I don't know how it's going to level out when it is all said and done, as my age increases, but I'm ever so happy that there are so many wig options on the market now.
10) Last but certainly not least, your sex drive increases in a major way... but then everybody already knows this one right?!
So did I miss anything Babes? What differences did you notice after 25, 35, 45, 55, 65, and perhaps even 75?!
Until next time,
Xx

  2. I love how you look, this outfit just is gorgeous. Well, I'm decades older than you, and I've taught yoga most of my life. What I would say that I noticed with each decade, including all of the above comments, is: with each decade I got stiffer! Yes, amazingly so. And the forties are great years, so something to look forward to.

  3. Gorgeous look, dear Joi, and your nails are such pretty little rainbows!

I'm 45. Like you, I've never really been afraid of getting older - on the contrary, I always wanted to grow up (I still do :)). Honestly, I don't really remember all the changes with my body at your age. I know that staying in my shape became increasingly more difficult. My normal size was 6 right till I had my daughter at 29. Then I was 8-10 for a couple of years, and then it just started growing. But truth be told, I haven't really tried too hard - I felt healthy and was way too busy with other stuff. :) I started doing stretching exercises every morning for about 2 months now, and noticed that my stomach slowly becomes tighter and flatter. We'll see how it goes, but it's obvious to me that my body still responds to good changes. I agree with the comment about less flexibility. I definitely was more flexible when I was younger, but I'm working on it now. I watch most of the changes in my body as I watch changes in nature during Autumn - hair change their color just as leaves do, and there is beauty in it. But what I am mostly excited about is the huge change in my mental state and spiritual being. Everything is so clear now, as never before.
    Lots of love!

I totally concur, the older I get, the more clear/pristine my mental vision is.

  4. Number 3, GIRL I feel you, because my patience level has been hovering over 0 for a long time. And I feel the same way with the weight gain/loss it's like WHY can't I lose it quickly any more!?

  5. Your outfit and nails are so gorgeous, you look beautiful! I am almost 23 but there is a part of me that almost wishes to be older because I am having such a bad time and feel totally stuck, I am paralysed with fear if I am making the right choices, I suffer terribly with M.E/ CFS and depression too, I long to break out of it and be free >< sorry for the sad comment haha, I'm never sure who to turn to or what I or anyone can do! Love your blog, following you on GFC! xx

    1. Thank you very much!! I'm so happy to hear that you enjoy my blog! One thing about living a life and making decisions: You learn as you go. Try to assess all available facts in any given moment and decide from there the best possible direction to take. There will be some losses, but there will also be a number of wins along the way ;) No situation/experience need be a waste or a lasting disappointment -even a so-called "bad" ones. If you learn and grow from it, it has served a useful benefit.

  6. What a fun post! I totally agree with patience that it's much less for crap or definitely non-existence and its now major effort for getting rid of 10 lbs! It's a real struggle and it sucks! I'll be in my 40 in less than 2 years, it'll be interesting to see what that's like! Not! Lol

  8. I can totally relate - the random hairs and aches and pains suck! Number 10 seems to have passed me by though! I would quite like silver grey hair so I could dye it pink or blue :-) I love everything about your outfit, the polka dot OTS bodysuit is so pretty. Amazing rainbow nails too! Thanks for linking up!

    1. LOL!!! Emma, I'm not sure if number 10 is a blessing or a curse--the jury is still out on that one! I have the same thought- I love pastel hair shades, and a grey base would make them so easy to pull off.
      THANK YOU!!!

  9. I can relate to this so much. I think that pimples are definitely a thing.....I think my hormones have changed so much and my skin reacts to that. I LOVE my 30s so much more than any decade so far though!

  10. You don't look 35! I like each age except anything before age 19. That's when I was able to move out.
